HAVEN - Healing, Advocacy, Violence-free, Empowerment, Nurture
At HAVEN, we are dedicated to creating a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.
Our name reflects our core mission: Healing, Advocacy, Violence-free, Empowerment, and Nurture. We provide a broad range of services with a deep commitment to inclusion and accessibility. We recognise the many identities within our community and ensure our doors are open to people from all walks of life, regardless of race, age, culture, gender, or background. Our goal is to ensure that every individual can access the safety and healing they deserve in a way that respects their unique journey.
Important safety note
If you are in immediate danger or experiencing an emergency, please dial 111 right away.
Our crisis line is a tool for support and coordination, but emergency services are the fastest way to ensure physical protection in a life-threatening moment.
Safe support, your way
Our commitment to your safety
We believe in a community connected approach to healing. Whether you are seeking immediate protection or long-term support, our team is here to walk alongside you. Our services are designed to be a Kete (basket) of resources for you and your Whānau, ensuring you have access to the right tools at the right time.
A community of care
HAVEN is more than just a service provider; we are an integral part of the Timaru community. We operate with high Manaakitanga (hospitality, kindness) ensuring that every person who reaches out to us is treated with the utmost respect and dignity. By building these connections, we work together to break the cycle of violence and nurture a culture of peace and empowerment for everyone, regardless of their life stage or heritage.
A client-led journey to healing
We believe that you are the expert in your own life. Our support journey is entirely led by what you want and need, moving at a pace that feels comfortable for you. We provide a broad range of services focused on Healing, Advocacy, Violence-free living, Empowerment, and Nurture. For those who are eligible victims of family violence, we can facilitate access to safe housing, providing a secure environment to begin the process of recovery.
Our commitment to Manaakitanga
At Haven, we operate with a deep sense of Manaakitanga (hospitality and care). We recognise your right to refuse consent for sharing information and respect your autonomy in every decision. By creating a nurturing and professional environment, we aim to break the cycle of violence and support you in building a future defined by peace and empowerment for everyone, regardless of their life stage or heritage.
No cost support
Our support is always absolutely free of charge for anyone in our community. We believe that safety is a fundamental right, not a privilege. By removing financial barriers, we ensure that every person, regardless of their background or heritage can access high-quality care without the stress of added costs.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Haven is committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all our work. We strive to ensure our services are culturally responsive and that we act as true partners in the healing journeys of Māori whānau within the Mid-South region. We recognise the importance of Tino Rangatiratanga (self-determination) and aim to provide support that honors the heritage and identity of everyone who walks through our doors.
