Simple steps to help keep your browsing private

This page explains how to do it in simple steps. Choose the browser you use below and follow the instructions. If your screen looks a little different, look for words like History, Clear, Delete, or Privacy.

Quick way on most computers

On many computers, you can press these keys together:

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + Delete

  • Mac: Command + Shift + Delete

A window should open where you can choose what to delete.

Google Chrome

On a computer

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.

  3. Click Delete browsing data (or Clear browsing data).

  4. Choose a time range, such as Last hour or All time.

  5. Tick the boxes you want to clear, such as:

    • Browsing history

    • Cookies and other site data

    • Cached images and files

  6. Click Delete data.

On an Android phone or tablet

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.

  3. Tap History.

  4. Tap Clear browsing data.

  5. Choose a time range.

  6. Tick what you want to delete.

  7. Tap Clear data.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Tap the three dots at the bottom.

  3. Tap History.

  4. Tap Clear Browsing Data.

  5. Choose a time range.

  6. Tick what you want to delete.

  7. Tap Clear Browsing Data again.

Safari

On a Mac

  1. Open Safari.

  2. Click History in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  3. Click Clear History.

  4. Choose how far back you want to clear, such as the last hour or all history.

  5. Click Clear History.

To clear more data:

  1. Click Safari in the menu bar.

  2. Click Settings (or Preferences).

  3. Open the Privacy tab.

  4. Click Manage Website Data.

  5. Click Remove All or remove individual sites.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Scroll down and tap Safari.

  3. Tap Clear History and Website Data.

  4. Tap again to confirm.

Microsoft Edge

On a computer

  1. Open Edge.

  2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.

  3. Click Delete browsing data.

  4. Click Choose what to clear.

  5. Choose a time range.

  6. Tick what you want to delete.

  7. Click Clear now.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Edge.

  2. Tap the three dots at the bottom.

  3. Tap Settings.

  4. Tap Privacy and security.

  5. Tap Delete browsing data.

  6. Choose what to delete.

  7. Tap Delete.

On an Android phone or tablet

  1. Open Edge.

  2. Tap the three dots.

  3. Tap Settings.

  4. Tap Privacy and security.

  5. Tap Delete browsing data.

  6. Choose what to delete.

  7. Tap Clear.

Mozilla Firefox

On a computer

  1. Open Firefox.

  2. Click the three lines in the top-right corner.

  3. Click History.

  4. Click Clear recent history.

  5. Choose a time range.

  6. Tick what you want to delete.

  7. Click OK.

On an Android phone or tablet

  1. Open Firefox.

  2. Tap the three dots.

  3. Tap History.

  4. Tap Delete history.

  5. Confirm if asked.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Firefox.

  2. Tap the three lines.

  3. Tap History.

  4. Tap Clear recent history.

  5. Choose a time range.

  6. Tap Clear.
