Every action makes a difference
Creating a violence-free community is a collective responsibility. At HAVEN, we rely on the kindness, time, and resources of our local community to ensure that every individual and whānau walking through our doors feels supported and valued. Whether you are a local business, a community group, or an individual wanting to give back, there are many ways to contribute to the Healing, Advocacy, Violence-free living, Empowerment, and Nurture of our community.
Essential goods and “Start Out” packs
When whānau are resettling after a crisis, they often start with very little. We are always in need of high-quality, essential items. Following the lead of our partners like St Vincent de Paul and Zonta, you can help by donating pantry staples, new toiletries, or “handbags of essentials” to provide immediate comfort and dignity.
Corporate and business partnerships
We are proud to be supported by a massive network of local Timaru businesses.
Business partnerships are a powerful way to show your customers and staff that you stand against family harm. From sponsoring a service to providing logistical support like moving furniture, your business can be a pillar of safety in our region.
Spread the word
Help us make HAVEN a visible name in the Mid-South.
Follow and share our social media updates, and let people know that 12 Elizabeth Street is a safe place for anyone wāhine, tāne, or gender-diverse individuals to find support. Awareness is the first step toward prevention.

Organise your own event
Are you part of a club, club or a local sports team? Organising a “Fundraising for HAVEN” event like a morning tea or a community challenge is a fantastic way to raise both funds and awareness. We love seeing the creative ways our community comes together to support our work.
Seasonal support: Christmas giving
Christmas is our busiest time of year for donations. We are incredibly grateful for our “Christmas Army” of local supporters who gather gifts for the families in our care. From toy drives to festive food baskets, these contributions ensure that every child and adult supported by HAVEN experiences the joy and warmth of the holiday season.
Ways to donate
Financial contributions are the lifeblood of our front-line services.
When you donate to HAVEN – Mid-South Refuge, you are providing more than just money; you are providing the resources needed for a mother to find safety, for a child to attend our Safe Steps program, and for our STAR Team to provide life-changing trauma recovery.
We offer several ways to give, ensuring that your contribution no matter the size makes a tangible difference in the lives of our community members in Timaru and the wider Mid-South region.
